Are we having A 2020 Parent-Child TOURNAMENT?

Yes!  After much consideration, we are planning to play the 2020 Parent-Child Tournament with a few precautions, which include:
  • Masks will be required until temperature is confirmed during check in
  • Tee times, instead of a shotgun start, will prevent larger gatherings
  • Simplified raffle (not entering The First Tee facility)
  • Boxed lunches instead of buffet style
  • Online scoring
  • Masks are required at all times in the clubhouse
  • Awards will be announced online (on both Saturday and Sunday evenings)
  • Prizes may be picked up at The First Tee office beginning Friday, September 25th


The First Tee Parent-Child is open to two-player teams consisting of Parents and Children of ALL ages.  The definition of “Parent” may be mother, father, step-parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle or mentor.  The Committee has final approval on all teams.  Please remember that we always welcome and encourage Adult-Adult teams in our 18-Hole Division!


Competition will follow the USGA rules of play and players will choose their Division from the following:
5-Hole “FUN” Division:  5 holes in a Captain’s Choice format (mostly Crabapple)
9-Hole “FUN” Division: 9 holes in a Captain’s Choice format (Crabapple)
18-Hole Division: 18 holes in a Modified Alternate Shot format (Redbud – Crabapple)

There will be a  Championship Flight in the 18-Hole Tournament for any teams that have two players with an established handicap and choose “Championship Flight” on the application.  Gross and Net prizes will be awarded in the Championship Flight.  Those participating in the 5, 9 or 18-Hole Tournament without a handicap will be flighted based on skill level, age and past tournament experience. Awards will be based on number of entries received.


This entry fee includes 5, 9 or 18 holes with cart, range balls, box lunch, tee gift and awards.  All entries are due by September 14th and teams can easily register and pay online at HERE.  Be sure and register by August 15th to take advantage of Early Bird pricing!  Please note that in an effort to increase social distancing measures and prevent large gatherings, we will be using tee times this year. Below you will see a range of times that your tee time could be. We will contact you with the exact time closer to the tournament.  If you would like to play with more than one child at different times, we will make every effort possible to accommodate tee times to allow you to do so!

5-Hole “FUN” Division – $65/team ($75 after August 15th)
Saturday, September 19th (tee times between 2pm and 5pm)

9-Hole “FUN” Division – $90/team ($100 after August 15th)
Saturday, September 19th (tee times between 9am and 1pm)

18-Hole Division – $140/team ($150 after August 15th)
Sunday, September 20th (tee times between 8:30am and 11am)


Friday, September 11th –Thursday, September 17th
Practice Round of $25 for Adults (all inclusive) and complimentary for Juniors with option of cart for $20 (Weather dependent and MUST call RCC for tee time – 343.1330)

Saturday, September 19th
8:00am Begin Check-In / Practice Areas open for 9-Hole Division
9:00am Tee times begin for 9-Hole Division
Noon Box lunches become available for 9-Hole and 5-Hole Divisions
2:00pm Tee times begin for 5-Hole Division
Evening  Winners will be announced via email, Facebook and website (all scoring will be conducted through an app). Prizes can be picked up at The First Tee facility the following week.

Sunday, September 20th
7:00am Begin Check In / Practice Areas open for Sunday 18-Hole Division
8:30am Tee times begin for 18-Hole Division
Noon Box lunches become available for 18-Hole Division
Evening Winners will be announced via email, Facebook and website (all scoring will be conducted through an app). Prizes can be picked up at The First Tee facility the following week.

Friday, September 25th 
Raffle Drawing and Award pick-ups at The First Tee facility (3707 Densmore Rd; Roanoke, VA 24017)

**Reminder:  It’s a good rule of thumb to arrive 30-45 minutes before you tee off to check-in and warm up!

In the event of cancellation due to increasing COVID-19 restrictions, all entries will be credited to our 2021 event.  Entrants will have the option of playing, fully paid, in 2021 or of transferring their paid registration to a friend or family member or donating their 2020 registration fees. However, we are not able to offer refunds due to inclement weather.  If the course becomes unplayable due to weather conditions, the tournament committee will issue vouchers to be used by the team at another time during the year.
